The Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment (DEOPE) is appointed by the Governor and reports directly to the Minister for Public Sector Management.
The DEOPE's statutory role is covered by Part IX of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. The objectives of Part IX are to eliminate and ensure the absence of discrimination in employment in public authorities on all grounds covered by the EO Act and to promote equal employment opportunity for all persons in public authorities.
