How to use the Guide?

The Good Governance Guide is made up of a series of products that you can use in whichever form and combination best suits your needs.

  • You may simply refer to the nine governance principles to make sure that your organisation's accountability framework captures the key areas; or
  • You might wish to consult the operational matrix for more details about applicable standards, how you reach these, how you check whether you are meeting your target, and how you report about this.
  • If you are "lost in regulation", the accountability map helps you gain a clear and comprehensive overview of the mandatory requirements your organisation has to comply with.
  • If you feel overwhelmed by the task, you can consult the practice exemplars and tools for ideas on how to translate the requirements into practice.
  • Whether you are an established or a young organisation, you will find the maturity model a useful tool to identify your organisation's risk profile, assess the state of your current governance framework and to plan how to fill any possible gaps.
  • Finally, you can use the checklist for a quick appraisal of whether you are still on track with respect to your accountability obligations, and for communicating this to your staff or the wider public.
