Public Interest Disclosures

How does OPSSC monitor?

Under Part 4 of the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2003 the Commissioner monitors and reports on the extent of compliance with the PID Act and the PID Officer's Code of Conduct and Integrity.

The Commissioner may use a range of strategies to monitor compliance with the PID Act. These can include:

  • receiving and evaluating public authorities' reporting data;
  • evaluating complaints alleging non-compliance with the PID Act;
  • evaluating data received by OPSSC through its assistance role;
  • conducting audits of public authorities compliance with the PID Act;
  • monitoring the PID Officers register; and
  • conducting CEO and employee surveys.

Information contained within Public Interest Disclosures can help the Commissioner to fulfil this monitoring role. Disclosures made to OPSSC are referred to as Compliance Inquiries (Public Interest Disclosure).
